What a day at the WTA Croatia Open Bol! What a day for Slovenian tennis players.
After she won against No.5 seed Astra Sharm, in the quarterfinals the young Slovenian Kaja Juvan defeated No. 3 seed player Aleksandra Krunic. Krunic (WTA – 76) is 2017 Croatia Bol Open winner, but this year she was stopped by youthful 18-year-old Juvan, 131st player in the world. Slovenian was better in both sets and the final result was 5-7, 3-6. In the semifinals she will meet top-favourite Tamara Zidanšek, last year’s winner and the No. 1 seed of the tournament. It is difficult to expect another surprise, but surprises make sports so charming. You never know. It will be an exciting match between top-favourite and the biggest surprises of the tournament.
In the quarter-finals, Zidanšek (WTA 60) won against Switzerland’s Timea Bacsinsky (WTA-94). It was a tough two-hour match at 1 pm under the sun and 30 ° C, but ultimately Zidanšek won with 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
