President of Croatia has confirmed the patronage of WTA Bol Open.

We are pleased to announce that the patronage of the WTA tournament Bol Open, which will be held on 5th-11th of June, has been confirmed by the Croatian President, Ms. Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic. This is another indicator of the importance of organizing such tournaments in our country, but also a recognition of the growing influence of the Croatian women’s tennis. In the letter, the President has highlighted her confidence in the excellent organization and great interest of tennis fans for this event. On this occasion, the tournament director Feliks Lukas expressed satisfaction with the President’s recognition of sport events that have creative potential and promote excellence and progress.

Mandy Minella from Luxemburg is winner of the WTA Bol Open 2016!

In the final she defeated Slovenian Polona Hercog 6:2, 6:3.

Minella is 30 years old and is ranked 186th in the world. She was not a tournament favorite but her solid performance and the injury of Ana Konjuh in the semifinals in the second set opened her the doors for the first WTA title of the career.

Hercog was nervous in the final and Minella played flawless. In the second set Slovenian even had a 2:0 lead but she lost it and at the end trophy went to Luxemburg.

The audience at the finals had an opportunity to enjoy in the performance of the Cuban ballerina Ana Karla Suarez, the star of the music video “Bailando” by Enrique Iglesias.

Croatian representative Petra Martic paired with a Swiss Xenia Knoll won in the final of pairs at WTA Bol Open against the Romanian Raluca Olaru and turkish Ipek Soylu 6:3, 6:2

-“I am glad that I won at least a trophy in doubles in Croatia. Finally I won a tournament, even in pairs. It has been long time since I won something” – said Martic laughingly.

Now we see how playing against Hercog was a tough schedule in the first round of singles?

-“if we had a different schedule I would have at least went through one round” – said Martic

Swicc Knolls is half Serbian from her mother side.

“My mom is from Belgrade. I know Petra since about a year and a half ago, we played together for a first time and won. I had a great time in Bol I had more parties than in the whole year so far ” – said Knoll.

Conference on how to promote entrepreneurial culture from the governmental side.

Glasgow University Entrepreneurship Society is organizing a conference on promoting the entrepreneurial culture from the governmental side in Bol, Croatia on Sunday the 5th of June as part of the BolOpen WTA125K tennis tournament programme. The aim of the conference is to share best practice and experience from different entrepreneurial cultures that could help facilitate the growth of Croatian entrepreneurial scene. The conference is organised in partnership with Feliks Lukas, the director of the BolOpen tennis tournament.

The conference will include experts from key stakeholder positions – the government, the financial sector, and the entrepreneurs. The conference will feature speakers from across Europe and Croatia including Maja Fredotović, the incoming dean of economics at Split University, Kaspar Korjus, the director of Estonia’s e-residency programme, Carlo Besenius, the CEO of Creative Global Investments, and Christian Zellner, the head of the European Investment Bank mission to Moscow. The variety of the speakers‘ professional backgrounds will serve to provide a diversified range of views on the problems entrepreneurs face and how these can be alleviated.

Konjuh in the semifinals of Bol Open!

A big Saturday is in front of us! In the tomorrows first semifinal WTA Bol Open at 13:30, Nao Hibino of Japan will play against the Slovenian Polona Hercog. After that at 17:00 with a direct coverage on HTV, Croatian Ana Konjuh will play against Luxemburgian Mandy Minella.

The favored Croat defeated Tereza Mrdeza with 6:3, 7:6(5). “I tip my hat to Tereza, she put me out of my ryhtm which I did not like. It was a tough battle for every point, every game” –said Konjuh after the match.

On Saturday she will play against the Luxemburgian Mandy Minella, ranked 186th on the WTA list. “I never played against her, I don’t know her that much. I expect a good match.We are both tired, I expect a fight and a good tennis.” – said Minella

Tereza Mrdeza put a resistance versus a younger opponent. “We know each other for a long time, she is a quality opponent, she started to play better, managed to keep on the rhythm, but well. All in all I knew I have nothing to lose. Considering this is my third tournament after the surgery and that I came to Bol after a 10k tournament and she after Roland Garros, it is all cristal clear” – said Mrdeza

The Luxemburgian Minella was impressed with Bol. “This tournament has a fantastic organization. I wish every tournament was like this one. It is hosted on the hotel courts and Bol is like in paradise. We have an excellent Spa, food is great. On the other tournaments you have to travel a lot between accommodation and it is not as nice like here.

In the second semi-final match, Japanese Hibino who defeated the Swiss Stefanie Voegele 6:2, 6:2 will play against the Slovenian Hercog who defeated the Slovak, Kristina Kucova with 6:4, 6:1

“I plan to play in the finals of every tournament. So far so good, I took my chances in all of my matches. If I continue like that I might get even better”- said Polona Hercog
